Top-Hung Gantry-Type 3D Lift Platform
Model CT-3AX-25M-G — Dual-Basket Overhead Painting Platform for Wide Workpieces
Suspended from the booth roof steelwork · spans the full booth width · two operator baskets reach both sides and the top of the workpiece
1 OVERVIEW
The CoatTech CT-3AX-25M-G is a gantry-type (bridge-type) 3-axis personnel lift platform developed for painting large, wide workpieces — generator enclosures, equipment enclosures, modular shelters, E-Houses and heavy fabricated steel structures.
Unlike conventional wall-mounted or floor-rail 3D trolleys, which reach the workpiece with a cantilever telescopic arm from one side, the CT-3AX-25M-G uses a gantry frame that spans the booth width and is suspended from a top rail fixed to the booth roof steelwork. Two operator baskets hang beneath the cross beam and travel along it — giving painters direct access to both sides of the workpiece and to the top surface, from a single machine.
This configuration removes the deflection and sway problems that limit cantilever designs, and eliminates the need for any floor rail or floor modification.

2 WHY A GANTRY DESIGN — THE LIMIT OF THE CANTILEVER ARM
When a workpiece is wide — for example a 2,500 mm enclosure — a wall-mounted or floor-rail platform must extend a telescopic arm roughly 2,400 mm sideways to reach the working face. At that extension, the cantilever design runs into a structural limit:
|
Issue |
What happens |
|
Excessive deflection |
With 225 kg at the tip of a 2,400 mm arm, deflection reaches roughly three times the accepted design limit (L/500). The platform visibly sags and sways. |
|
Loss of coating quality |
A swaying platform makes it impossible to hold a consistent spray gun distance and angle — directly affecting film build and finish uniformity. |
|
Operator safety and fatigue |
Movement at height is uncomfortable and unacceptable for personnel lifting equipment. |
|
Inefficient reinforcement |
Controlling deflection would require increasing the arm section several times over — a heavier, bulkier and far more expensive machine with no real benefit. |
The gantry design solves this by changing the load path: the baskets hang vertically beneath the cross beam, so the load is carried through the frame in tension and compression rather than as a bending moment on a projecting arm. The deflection problem disappears.
3 KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
· Top-hung gantry frame: A gantry frame spans the booth and is suspended from the top rail fixed to the booth roof steelwork. The full weight is carried by the top structure.
· Dual operator baskets: two baskets hang beneath the cross beam and travel along it, covering both sides of the workpiece and the top surface — the natural solution for enclosures of varying widths.
· Longitudinal travel (X): the gantry travels along the booth length, giving full longitudinal coverage of long workpieces.
· Vertical lift (Z): each basket lifts vertically to reach the full height of the workpiece.
· No floor works: no floor rail, no embedded foundation and no modification to the booth floor — the working floor stays completely clear.
· Explosion-proof design: motors, limit switches, push-button stations and the control cabinet are all flameproof, rated Ex d IIB T4 for hazardous paint environments.
· Stable, sway-free working: the platform carries the load vertically through the frame, so it stays stable — the painter maintains a consistent gun distance and angle, giving uniform film thickness.
· Removes scaffolding: replaces scaffolding and ladders, cutting set-up time and removing fall hazards.

Also available in wall-mounted and floor-rail configurations. CoatTech will recommend the most suitable type after reviewing your booth dimensions and workpiece range.
6 APPLICATIONS
· generator enclosures and generator skid base frames
· equipment enclosures, modular shelters and E-Houses
· large fabricated steel structures and welded frames
· transformer tanks, containers and large housings
· any wide workpiece where painters must reach both sides and the top surface without repositioning the product
⚠ The gantry is suspended from your booth roof steelwork
Because the full weight is carried by the top rail, the booth roof structure must be verified before manufacture. CoatTech supplies certified suspension-point load data with the final design; the customer's structural engineer must confirm the roof can carry it.

9 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1: Why choose a gantry platform instead of a wall-mounted telescopic lift?
A: When the workpiece is wide — around 2,500 mm or more — a wall-mounted lift must extend a cantilever arm roughly 2,400 mm to reach the working face. At that extension the arm deflects well beyond acceptable limits and the platform sways, which harms both finish quality and operator safety. A gantry carries the load vertically through the frame, eliminating sway, and its two baskets reach both sides of the workpiece naturally.
Q2: Does it need a floor rail or floor modification?
A: No. The gantry is suspended from a top rail fixed to the booth roof steelwork. There is no floor rail and no floor foundation, so the booth floor stays completely clear.
Q3: What must my booth roof be able to carry?
A: The full weight of the gantry is carried by the roof structure. As a preliminary guide, allow approximately 2,000 – 2,800 kg per unit across four suspension points (roughly 600 – 800 kg per point). CoatTech provides certified final figures with the design, and your structural engineer must confirm the roof capacity before manufacture.
Q4: Can it be used in a hazardous (explosion-proof) area?
A: Yes. Motors, limit switches, push-button stations and the control cabinet are flameproof to Ex d IIB T4. Please confirm your hazardous-area classification (Zone 1 / Zone 2, gas group and temperature class) so we can match the certification to your booth.
Q5: Can it be customised to my existing booth?
A: Yes — every unit is engineered to your booth internal dimensions, workpiece envelope, hazardous-area classification and power supply (50 Hz or 60 Hz). We do not use standard footprints.
Q6: What power supply do you support?
A: Standard is 400 V / 3-phase. Both 50 Hz and 60 Hz are available — the reference project in Saudi Arabia is built for 400 V / 3-phase / 60 Hz. Other voltages on request.
Q7: What safety devices are fitted?
A: Overload protection with automatic cut-out, mechanical anti-fall lock, holding brakes on the travel and lift axes, upper and lower limit switches, emergency manual descent, emergency stop on the basket and at ground level, interlocked access gate, anti-slip floor and end buffers.
